Catechism in a Year

The success of the Bible in a Year that began in the pandemic year of 2020 has given inspiration to the new for 2023, Catechism in a Year taught by Fr. Mike Schmitz. “Ascension Press announces a new podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz, plus a new print edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church“…Beginning on January 1, 2023, for 365 daily podcast episodes, Fr. Mike Schmitz will read the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church. He discusses  the four parts of the Catechism and gives insight, clarity and encouragement through the catechism journey.

What is the first question answered in the Catechism?

What is the purpose of man? Do we know the meaning of life?  The life of man is to know and love God. “God infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man.”

“What we did with the Bible, we’re going to do with the Catechism,” explains Fr. Mike. “For 365 days we are going to take a little section of the Catechism every single day. We’re going to read it, explain it, and expand upon it so that by the end of this year we’ll be able to say, ‘I know what the Church believes, I know what God’s plan is for my life, I know how to talk to God, I know how to listen to His voice, and I know how to worship Him.’ It’s going to be incredible.”

How are listeners responding to the Catechism in a Year podcasts?

“Ever since the Bible in a Year podcast launched, our customers have been calling for us to create a Catechism in a Year podcast,” comments Ascension President and CEO Jonathan Strate. We are excited for Fr. Mike Schmitz to present this offering to our audience, especially as the Catechism of the Catholic Church marks the 30th anniversary of its publication this October.”

In the video above, shared by Ascension Press is the positive feedback from a listener who happens to be from the Southern Baptist denomination. Her response demonstrates the positive effect the Catechism in a Year podcast is having on its listeners.

Saint Thomas Aquinas asserts," Your soul is worth more than all of the created universe!" You have dignity because you are created in the image of God. I believe Saint Thomas Aquinas's statement. Being a Christian does not mean you will not have problems in life, or that you will not feel lost sometimes. God does not remove all our obstacles but He is there to carry us over and through them to reach the finish line. I hope to share things here that will help you to discover, develop and grow your relationship with God.
