Are you envious?
This question calls for us to look deeply into ourselves for our daily motivation for our actions as we engage with others. Do we take actions to compete with others in what we have, the clothes we wear, the cars we drive, and the careers we seek and the homes we live in? Do we direct our lives to outdo others or live up to a standard that our present culture dictates? Perhaps we don’t even realize that our plans and life directions are driven by envy. Commercials that drive consumerism even say ” Be the envy of your friends” ” Have the best lawn and be the envy of your neighbors”. Envy is the discontent we feel when others have an advantage that we may not possess. This emotion of discontent causes us to break one of the Ten Commandments- You should not covet.
You should not covet your neighbor’s wife. You should not covet your neighbor’s goods.
I would like to share with you a very in depth look at this question “Are you envious?” and the answer to overcome envy in today’s Catholic Reflections
It’s a grace to reflect on our own hearts and guard ourselves against the sin of envy. We can overcome the stumbling block of envy with being grateful for what we have.
God bless,
