What Do We Want?

We Cling On

We hold on tightly to our sense of control. We think we have the future in our grasp, or at least in our planners or cellphone calendars. That’s what most of us believed until everything changed in 2020 beginning the COVID 19 shutdowns. Life as we knew it no longer existed and many of our loved ones, friends and people we did not even know, but somehow, they were connected to our daily interactions and transactions were affected. They were gone or impaired. Events and things were put on hold. Now, the time of shutdowns seems to be over, and we are getting back to our daily lives and business endeavors with more “full steam ahead.” We must get back on track and regroup to push forward to our goals.

What Are Our Goals?

But what are these goals? What do we want to accomplish? Do we want to make loads of money? Do we want to beat out our friends and neighbors to the best home, car or life of luxury? Or do we want to find financial freedom in order to spend more time with our families and friends whom we almost totally lost during the pandemic? Do we want peace of mind with our needs met so we can help others meet theirs?

We Can Impact Our World

In order to accomplish financial freedom so we can bless others, we must place God first. We must seek out the knowledge of God. Communion with God should be the central purpose of our lives. We have to let go of “control” and allow God to come into our lives. Begin the day with prayer. Ask God to guide you during your day. Read the Bible. Attend biblical learning events, talks and online webinars.

A very helpful guide through reading the Bible is “The Bible in a Year” podcast, Fr. Mike Schmitz walks you through the entire Bible in 365 episodes, providing commentary, reflection, and prayer along the way. Putting God first helps to keep us centered and grounded. God will guide you to what is best for you and your financial endeavors so you will be in a better position to help others. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

We should reflect on what it is we really want to accomplish with our daily pursuits. We should remember what is most valuable in life, our relationship with God our creator and our families and friends. Even if we don’t have a biological family or friends, we can make the world a better place where we are by having the financial freedom whereby, we can help those around us live in a better world.

Saint Thomas Aquinas asserts," Your soul is worth more than all of the created universe!" You have dignity because you are created in the image of God. I believe Saint Thomas Aquinas's statement. Being a Christian does not mean you will not have problems in life, or that you will not feel lost sometimes. God does not remove all our obstacles but He is there to carry us over and through them to reach the finish line. I hope to share things here that will help you to discover, develop and grow your relationship with God.
